Fake Food and Advertising

Have you ever gone to a restaurant and the pictures on the menu always look so much better than the food you get?
Well, that may be because the food on the menu isn’t really food! In fact, if what they were using in those ads were placed on your plate it would be anything but appetizing.
I never realized how much of an art food advertising was until I started researching and reading about the different ways they make the food look so good! Appearance and appeal is a big deal in every type of advertisement, it’s an even big deal when it comes to the food industry.
They are more of an odd toddler baked quasi made up of glue, cardboard, and play dough. For example…

1.) Glue
Real milk tends to make cereal soggy very fast and there is nothing more unappetizing than soggy cereal. Also, the milk could possibly spoil under the harsh lighting fixtures. So glue is used in the place of milk! People may also use shampoo or yogurt because the cereal won’t move around due to the thick consistency.
2.) Shoe polish
Most of the time meats aren’t actually fully cooked in commercials, in fact they just barely cook it enough so it looks done on the outside, then add some shoe polish lines to make it look like there are grill marks. Just a little brush of polish on the edges make burgers look hot, fresh, and tasty!

3.) Cardboard
Everyone knows how hard it is to make cakes stack one on top of the other while staying firm. If you put a piece of cardboard in between each piece of cake and then cover it with icing you’ll have a picture perfect cake!

4.) Antiacid tablet
Crisp bubbles in soda don't happen by their self in commercials. In fact, it happens with the drop of an anti acid tablet! The tablets add bubbles that last longer than the regular post pour bubbles do.
5.) Bubbles
Adding a few drops of dish soap to beer or other bubbly drinks make the bubbles stay longer and make the beverage seem fresher!
As all of this seems rather innovative and smart, it is also a little disheartening because they are technically lying to their audience. What you see isn’t really what you are going to get. I’m expecting a juicy grill-marked burger but instead, I get a floppy undercooked disk.
